DORKBOT - SYD

Dorkbot is a regular meeting for "people doing strange things with electricity". There are more than 60 Dorkbot factions all over the world! The meetings are open to the public and free of charge. They usually involve a simple format of 2 to 3 presentations on different projects and a show&tell time at the end for little things and announcements. Dorkbot aims to bring people together from different fields who are interested in doing strange things with electricity; be you artist, engineer, musician, electrician, software developer, hermit, whatever. Regular meetings pose as an opportunity for public discussion, peer review and exploration of ideas, experiments and finished works and also to solidify and invite growth, encouragement and collaboration in a community of curious people.

I started Dorkbot-Syd in October of 2006. Since then it has grown into a solid community of people from a wide variety of backgrounds. I have run a range of different events on top of the regular format including excursions, performances and workshops with the help of Dorkbot Members. I have talked at a number of different events about my experience running the meeting one of them being an annual festival in Newcastle called Electrofringe. Over the last two years I have been involved with executing two day electronics workshops centered around origonal designs by artist/engineer Aras Vaichas.
